Can one go for Archaeological Ruins in view of Islam?

We use to travel as discovery and have fun when reaching some Archaeological Ruins (e.g Ancient Rome, Edge water Park Site, Moenjodaro). Is this okay in accordance to Islamic Rules and Sharia? As i have heard it is not permitted to go on such Ruins...
