I have a Yogi Berra L-ville Slugger bat from 1960- 70's. The bat has Washington & Lee on it. Any ideas?

The bat has R-43 stamped on the handle and looks like it had pine-tar on the handle at one time. Any idea about this bat and what the Washington and Lee stamp is doing on the bat? I have pictures, so if you have any idea, let me know and I will submit pictures. Thanks.
