Want the name of a Scottish Yellow Evergreen!?

I'm watching a great show on HDNet, on Scotland. They just talked about a yellow evergreen, they called it gath or something like that. The man narrating the show has a gorgeous accent, but I couldn't understand the word he used. He said that it grew wild all over Scotland, and although it may grow elsewhere, a true Scotsman would never admit it. I'm thinking it is beautiful, and want to try to grow some, but can't find it. Anyone know the name of this?
