How can I improve my drum kit?(read description)?

I have a Ludwig Accent entry kit. I have already dampened the heads but they still sound like crap. I know I need to replace the drum heads. I really want a deep sound but still want them dampened. If it it helps, I really like the way the drums on Arctic Monkeys songs sound. Also, any other tips on improving the sound would be great because I'm new to drumming.
